When a bomb went off and knives went flying Auriel assumed Lucien died.

When we got to the crash site, his body wasn't there.

Thus my headcanon

Auriel doesn't know who his parents are and grew up as an orphan.

Dorian grew up only having a mother. He went to his father when his was older in hopes to have some guidance of what he was.
