Decided to revisit BioForge; Origin's 1995 action-adventure 'interactive movie'. I bought it on release but for reasons long-forgotten I never finished it. Back to slowly roundhousing guards to death we go... #DOSGaming
Atari The Last Starfighter and Air Race
Atari's abandoned System 4 was to be another hardware-based 3D system following on from I, Robot. The two games written for it survived on a tape backup, the hardware long gone. Unfortunately the 2D overlay data was missing.
Microprose F-15 Strike Eagle, BOTSS and Tank Battle
Microprose entered the arcades with a costly multi-processor, custom-hardware-based 3D system. I had to write an AM29000 CPU core as this was Microprose's odd choice of math processor (combined with a hardware multiplier).
This went by fairly quickly but the CD-exclusive extended final mission was a welcome addition. Final dogfight infuriated until I discovered the reverse key! An enjoyable adventure despite a clunky interface and an annoying dead-end in the final mission. Onto Judgement Rites!
Time to revisit another adventure game: Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. I rushed my way through the floppy version nearly 30 years ago so this time I'm playing the CD version and actually trying to solve the puzzles...
Casio Loopy video emulation *almost* there. Look for it in MAME next month!
