Ash is based on Red from the first games right? Then Riko/Liko is based on the SV Protagonists.

The question is why would Riko + Roy travel to all of the regions they haven't gone to before? The exception is Unova (cuz of the rumored game remake). Plus the promotional posters are quite different to each other.
