In a previous version of King's Quest IV, there were no layers. All the exterior backgrounds are drawn twice! Night scenes are more detailed but obviously the game takes more memory space!

The first image is taken from the previous version and the second image from the last one:

But most of the night scenes are composed of two images:
- the original background for the day
- and for the night, another image is displayed over the first

Here's an example with the pictures and The third picture is a combination of the two firsts.
