On Battle of Britain Day I thought I'd post this symbolic painting, completed during my Artist in Residency at Bentley Priory in 2019. It depicts every squadron that flew under Fighter Command control and the aircraft type they flew, with codes, there's even a Fulmar in there!
As today marks the 79th Anniversary of Operation Chastise (The Dambuster Raid), here's my new painting of the raid, recently commissioned by Zero West watches. It depicts Joe McCarthy's ED825 heading home from the Sorpe Dam over the breached Möhne Dam. Lest we Forget.
Today, 81 years ago, 20 year old Tom Neil and fellow pilots of 249 Squadron threw their Hurricanes into a head-on attack against a huge formation of German bombers over the Thames Estuary. Tom wryly commented, 'there were hundreds of them and we were only 12, where to start?!'
It's the 80th Anniversary of the first flight of my favourite aircraft today, the Avro Lancaster. Here's my recent painting showing seven brave young men setting off to war, not knowing if they'll return the following morning.
