Although the denizens act like one big, united colony, there have been instances in the past, where some of them become "detached" from their kin, and venture beyond the deep blue.

The denizens of the abyss are ancient, so much that much of the knowledge kept by their predecessors has been lost to the vast emptiness of the ocean.

It is not rare to see custodians scouring the seafloor on the look for possible ruins.
