this week, pearl radicalizes

lion is the best character even as a totally 2D cat, but he becomes more complicated and better written once you learn he’s rose. even (sometimes especially) when lion is only an observer, it affects SO many scenes that already had emotional impact on their own!

su lore of the day: onion stole all the GUYS and GALS out of the vending machine at funland. this is why steven spends a bag of quarters getting only dave guy & why onion covets his misprinted (unique) ranger guy enough to steal that too

it took me so long to see rose has utena’s horns

In Nightmare Hospital, Lion watches Connie give her mom feedback and actually succeed, and Steven hug his sword sans mom. In It Could've Been Great, he knows how to get to the Moon Base but doesn't want to.

Rose's Scabbard you could write a whole thesis on, but main points of weird Lion behavior: finds the scabbard immediately, interacts with Pearl more than anyone else so far, knows where to find Pearl at the end. (Pearl didn't say this location was special/Rose rel. at first!)

The next ep is Lion 3, in which Lion is suddenly eager to tell Steven more about his mom, pushing him into the mane.
Steven has a dream about Dogcopter. Dogcopter tells him "take a deep breath". When Dogcopter leaves, the dream falls apart into a void, Steven wakes in the mane.

A couple harrowing adventures later, Steven tells a story to Connie with Lion listening nearby. Steven's bummed because he doesn't have healing powers like his mom. Lion's disgruntled.
In that story, a drowning(?) Steven sees his mother reach out to him.
