(2/2) Today's advice is using line coloring to soften up your image. I think black lines can be a bit harsh when scaled down so for small details like the cracks on the watermelon, line coloring helps soften the image where I want it.

(2/2) And here is today's advice. Even for smooth surfaces I don't like having the image appear too flat so I add a subtle gradient with a darker, more saturated color and the airbrush tool.
