Okay so I have told y'all how while I like gradient maps for coloring, I'm never quite happy with the skin tones. So far this way messier overlaying of layers seems to give me better results.
This one was very quick to color because I used the flats I had on the sketch and it mostly just took some clean up :D
Revanna Ravencrest in color. Gotta show those red red red locks! It's a fun look on a high elf <3
The most interesting thing is how muddied the values were on the original one (greyscaled version bellow for comparison of each)
Some more grayscale-coloring studies. Took an older drawing of Kolerian that I wasn't quite happy with the result and tried to color him more like my Arkantos
Oh lets add some texture and see how it looks
And here's my pirate dude study. He looks so handsome.
Still think skin needs a slightly different approach when coloring greyscale to what I have been doing, but it's looking nice.
Sooo this is last year's study compared to what I was doing today. Not really an skill issue, but about applying different coloring techniques (and I mean I still don't *love* the results of coloring B/W)
But like, yeah. BIG DIFFERENCE
