They chose to give it more of a reason for existing, rather than just filler. I'm still waiting for a screenshot of the full context, but this'll do.

I still find it crazy that Basculin has gotten such a sick looking evolution. It's Obstagoon all over again, where a Pokemon that I usually wouldn't give a fuck about gets a badass looking evolution.
