The real surprise of the Pibby/Corrupted toons thing to me is that OFFICIAL COMPANIES are allowing their beloved children's mascots to become soulless monsters. The closest past example I can even think of is Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers and that was far more rooted in parody.

I love how "corruption" in popular media has evolved from "what if these characters were twisted and evil" to "THE WORLD ITSELF IS EATING US ALIVE"
