Vasilissa, cunning, brave and strong, comes to her husbands rescue in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 #𝘙𝘶𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬. The role reversal is refreshing to read in this #fairytale. This story is not as familiar as 𝘝𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘪𝘳 but it has a stronger female lead.
#Fairytales can be quite gruesome and 'Jack the Giant Killer' 1898, illustrated by Hugh Thomson (1860–1920) was no exception. "He...found three ladies tied up by the hair of their heads, and almost starved to death.
#Popup and movable books were very popular during the #Victorian era and many were marketed towards children. Evelyn Stuart Hardy (1866-1935) a British illustrator, created several #fairytale themed ones with publisher Ernest Nister.
