World is dark. Not in dark souls sense but quite literally. There isnt that much natural light overall.
Take photo and inspect it with eyedropper in any redactor. You'll see how far lightest part from white and how far darkest from black.
@itsartperson You dont painting metal, you paint light that reflect from metal. If enviroment were fully black it would be black page. So everything is black, and then you adding light source and this is what reflects from furfaces inclufing metal.

Wanted to give advice about metals, but i'm too bad at english, so long story short, metal is just subpar mirror, paint reflection of the world around on it. Highlight spot is where light source ray ricochet directly into your eye. Trace imaginary photons in your mind
