AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER. The storyline is so-so. But the visual + sound spectacle in IMAX 3D… wow, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. The underwater scenes are simply magnificent.

Strongly recommend everyone to watch it in IMAX 3D. Unforgettable experience!

Watching TOP GUN: MAVERICK at a deluxe cinema hall was good. Watching it in IMAX lifts the immersive experience to a totally new level. The training bits were nerve-wrecking + the final mission was totally mindblowing.

In fact I think it’s the best movie I’ve seen in IMAX so far

THE KING’S MAN. The previous two ‘modern’ Kingsman films are popcorn action flicks that at times are cartoonish.

But this prequel has all the trademarks of classic British spy-war movies with more serious undertones, more intensity + bloodier. And more heartfelt

SWAN SONG. A terminally ill man afraid of bringing despair to his family, chose to transfer his identity + memories to another ‘man’ before he dies, so he can continue to ‘live’ with them.

A Golden Globe nominee with mega slowburn + beautifully constructed plot

MIDNIGHT MASS. Nauseating to know how some people commit atrocities in the name of God + religion. Even more terrifying when some people go all the way to protect atrocities by religious authorities. That’s real horror.

Best Netflix series of 2021, hands down

Movies for the weekend. Two Oscar shortlists for Best Foreign Film that look like pretty heavy stuff. So to balance them out, thought I’d also go with two brainless action-horror flicks.

SOUL. What happens when you die? What happened before you were born? What makes you, you?

Thought provoking + endearing. Pixar is a master storyteller. Already a winner of Best Animated Film at Florida Film Critics Award + a sure bet at the Oscars. Go watch it!
