A characteristic of quite a number of special occasions in Vietnam, especially those that involve gift giving, would be the sight of people selling flowers and flower-related products (bouquets, stuffed animals) on both sides of main streets.

On cúng cô hồn day, people would offer various treats to cô hồn (lonely ghosts) so that they wouldn’t disturb the living’s work or affairs. Once they are served, candies and money would be thrown on the streets for this world’s passers-by to catch.

I’d pick chuối nếp nướng (banana encased in sticky rice and then grilled) any day 🤤 especially on rainy ones like recently.

This is Meow An Tiem, derived from a historical (?) figure called Mai An Tiem. He was an adopted by a Vietnam’s ancient king. Tiem was exiled to an island for being too honest but still managed to provide for family by cultivating watermeowlon.
