if I had a nickel for every time one of my favorite franchises tried to do a metroidvania but was too afraid to discard or re-examine the parts of its identity that were incompatible with the genre, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

I didn't date this one so I dunno how old I was, but it's nice to know that my idea of a cool dude hasn't changed literally one bit at all in the last 25-30 years
