It was fun coming up with names for each fighter. I tried to style some to look like online screen names, others I just went all in on references. Coming up with names along with friends was a fun process, which may come up again with the new fighters.
There are some cards that may have visual discrepancies with how they appear in Ultimate. Notably, Link, Zelda, Ganondorf, and Sheik all look different than their Smash 4 / amiibo looks. But since it's an amiibo tourney, I'm sticking with how their figures look.
I did have a fair bit of trouble for some reason drawing Little Mac's hair in my version. I... have no idea why. I think it was a case of overthinking the shape and style of it, buuuut yeah that one's a mess...
Some of the references used are perhaps a bit outdated thanks to Ultimate, such as Ganondorf having his sword now, and Diddy apparently having been un-nerfed a bit. I still like most of the references I've used, we'll have to see if some end up needing a revamp later.
Looking between my original drafts and the final versions Neo produced, it really goes to show how much effort, thought, and heart he puts into them, with all the extra details he added in. Dude's seriously awesome with his artwork.
The program I used for these is called Visio Home. It was an old Win 3.1 program that was basically a vector drawing tool. It's real purpose was for making charts and blueprints, but I found it worked rather nicely for making vector art of whatever I wanted.
Seems like there's some interest in this, so I'll go ahead and start posting these. These are my original "sketch" versions of the amiibo cards I made for the eventual amiibo Tourney project I want to do. I'll post mine in the same order Neo showed his versions for comparison.
So Kit came up with an idea for a Cookie Run character and asked me to draw him. Thus, here is Tangerine Cookie, younger brother of Orange Cookie and a yo-yo trick artist. He likes to try to impress Grapefruit Cookie with his skills.
The resulting mugshot sprites, to fit as Animal Crossing patterns, would need to be 32 x 32. Sadly, no real way to do "jutting out of the frame" types like Quick Man's boomerang or such. Here are my own attempts, as well as good art of my RMs by Alex.
