You ever just double down on a bad idea?

I think it was @extra_vertebrae who suggested the idea that sentient species of Koopa don’t grow shells, but wear them. I’ve kind of warmed up to the idea, especially since it explains many of the visuals in the Super Mario World gameplay. Here is a very quick concept doodle.

Jim Carrey’s The Mask was a seminal film from my childhood. Imagine my surprise learning the comic was written by one of my favorite creators! Unlike the film, the comic still holds up. Cartoon violence with consequences.
