Some loose line you don't need? Draw over it. Once this layer is done, pick your next colour and repeat. And if your draft becomes too messy and you can't draw on top of your previous layers of pencil (or any other material), look at tip №1 again and trace it on a new sheet!
The second tip naturally follows up the first one.
For your sketch, you pick up a set of colours. My choice are usually orange, red, violet and dark blue, but you're free to choose whatever suits you best.

First of all, I often hear that traditional drawing is harder cuz unlike digital drawing it has no layers. In fact, you can make your life easier with a piece of transparent plastic or glass and a lamp. Or window and duct tape. Or maybe you have money for some fancy light pad.
