Ok so what actually happend here

In the trailers, sonic had long quills
Lankey limbs, and dark blue fur

And in the the actual game he has shorter limbs, shorter quills, and light blue fur

Here a visual example and reasons why I think this

1. It helps it stick out more against backgrounds

2. It gives it a more defined silhouette

3. It helps it stand out from the crowd of many characters with a simple thin outline style

Not counting eggman since he's the main villain of the series
