Regulus had kept all of this secret because he was trying to protect his family. A very noble act. Kreacher and Regulus’ family were all safer if they kept the old pure-blood line. Regulus was trying to protect them all.

Regulus had a good relationship with the family house-elf Kreacher and was always very kind to him. In return, Kreacher was very loyal to Regulus.
