Ark Royal, Helena and Hiryuu META have all a much cleaner look or rather a more aggressive and powerful feel to them - as if they left behind their "history" behind and rise up to a new "existence" which is the whole purpose of the METAmorphosis.

As for now I idenfity the "Ashes" META shipgirls with the following traits: a tattered and/or damaged appearance, as if they have "transformed" right before they meet their demise. Souryuu, Fusou and Hiyuo META fit the descriptions. Gneisenau and Yorktown are still a mystery.

If my assumptions are true, then Manjuu/Yongshi did another great job of reflecting the "last moments" of Gneisenau in her META form. If Scharnhorst META exists, then she would be a monster among monsters (according to her last battle).

The chains are similar to Belfast's neck chain: being moored or docked. After Operation Cerberus she underwent repairs in a dry dock. The British launched an air raid on the ship and one single bomb hit her forecastle, throwing off her the turret from its mount. (3/4)

As usual with Manjuu/Yongshi, the shipgirls are intentionally designed to reflect parts of their service history. And I think the META shipgirls are no exception: (1/4)
