Today’s the 200th anniversary of the death of Samuel Johnson’s friend Hester Lynch Thrale (later Piozzi). She is remembered for her “Anecdotes of the Late Samuel Johnson” (1786) and her intimate friendship with the writer, whom she considered “more of a hero to me than anyone”.
