Sharing my work made it possible for me to connect to people. When I was too afraid to leave my house I was isolated. My dark thoughts were a terrible echo chamber. When I shared my work I found people, and people found me. I found support I didn't expect or even know I needed.
Being able to sleep is how the hallucinations were able to stop. I can't stress enough just how much of a difference sleep made for me. I started to become 'human' again. I was able to go to work and it became easier to fight my compulsions to check the locks and windows.
However, writing was taking a lot out of me. At first, this was actually great-- because the concentration and perfectionism that compelled me when I wrote actually made it possible for me to fall asleep. Writing was a healthier thing to obsess over than fear for my safety.
Hello! I’m Lindsay (aka Penny Cat). I’m an Ace / CIND / Cherokee woman who has always loved to draw. Usually in secret. I never used to share because- insecurity, basically. My reasons were not kind to myself. Art changed my life. My story can't fit in one tweet, so: 🧵👇

@kokid951 Hi everyone!
I’m an Alaskan woman still finding my way in the art scene. My 1/1s are .05-.5 eth, and currently have an open edition at .02. I do hand-drawn colorful digital pieces, much of my work is about my mental health healing journey with art. 💜
