Honestly chilling, Morte shows the gradual creation of Laughing Coffin and the possibility that at any moment, people could die.
His existence gradually shows the near-explosion that would begin the first wave of player killing; ultimately a massacre. A very satisfying antagonist

I will say that Kizmel was a great addition to the cast.
She was a great means in world building for SAO that I'd never known until this point.
The mysterious NPC that seemingly acted very life-like added a lot of flavor to the dynamic between the main group.

Holy smokes. Even better than the previous novel.
All of the build-up, character writing, world building, and palpable tension was amplified.
The focus on "quest chains" was fantastic. https://t.co/bEtZtFnyxT

Overall it was a solid read and didn't really have any of what people would consider to be the "edgy" moments of the original anime adaptations.
Kirito is just a nervous and shy teen that doesn't know how to talk to people lol.
Good stuff.

It's mostly when we get to Floor 2 that Reki moves away from developing a raid as the main focus and moves into building a core cast. We see the guilds begin to form and the slow development of Laughing Coffin, feeling more menacing & "progressively" intertwined than ever before.

A lot of the heavier moments in Floor 1 I definitely felt had a lot of great context in the book that further explains motivations and such, but I do feel that the movie had its own way of carrying this weight

Though I'd almost say that the slow building slice of life and budding romance is what really tends to shine here, since nothing is assumed and it's all built from scratch.

by step

The world building i found to be pretty cool for aforementioned reasons of step by step development.
The bosses, tactics, and growth of their knowledge really felt fleshed out.
