In the 1980s the Cold War wasn't so cold on the big screen as Hollywood converted real-world tensions into cheesy propaganda. Film after film portrayed moustache-twirling Russians (and Cubans) who threatened the US way of life get their comeuppance from square-jawed Americans
The Neverending Story (1984) had one of the most traumatic scenes ever committed to celluloid when Artax the horse dies in the Swamp of Sadness. As his friend Atreyu begs and pleads, Artax is slowly swallowed by the mud. If its any consolation, the original 1979 book is worse.
@GeoffRimington I can see what you mean actually. Sorry for the accompanying picture.
@brizzyguy36 Here in the UK we had a similar thing: Trebor Mummies, boiled sweets with terrifying true life tales inside each wrapper. Oh, those yellow eyes though!

Behind door number twenty three of the Scarred for Life advent calendar is a somewhat lighter subject, the perennial children's favourite Watership Down. I mean, it's animated cuddly rabbits, what could go wrong? Right? Hello?
Let's open door number sixteen of the Scarred for Life advent calendar. Happy day! It's HTV's wonderfully creepy, time twisting, folk horror children's classic, Children of the Stones! Warning: may contain the eeriest title sequence ever.
