I think about creators who worked w/ Disney confirming they either held back from openly portraying LGBTQ+ material in their work or got in arguments w/ D over what they could show, even as late as 2017, and wonder what the KH team has been going thru for Soriku since 2002...
There’s one more instance of exclusion when it comes to Riku in Re:Mind.
Might be memory-related, might not.
(As another disclaimer, many of the things I went over in this thread aren't uniquely my own observations, I'm just trying to assemble everything together. Teamwork!💪)
Back to the main purpose of this thread. Tho this isn’t necessarily the strongest piece of evidence to support the idea that Sora’s memories of Riku aren’t just being affected in a few select cases but perhaps more broadly, I’ll note it.
As has been noted by others: “Limit Cut”
Riku's heart just chilling there by Sora's definitely wasn't something important they tried to draw our attention to. Definitely won't come back to haunt us, nope.
Or...
Maybe the time will come when Sora is Re:Minded of all this. Provided there aren’t any, ah, distractions.
On the subject of eclipses, Sora makes his way into a second tunnel of light, and...
Sora then proceeds to abuse the power of waking to save not 1, not 2, and **definitely not 6** hearts, but SEVEN!
First Riku, then (in a non-set order) Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Aqua, Ventus, and finally Lea.
Sora restored seven hearts. Specifically, these seven people’s hearts. *7*
Moving on, wouldn’t you think after hearing Riku’s words anew that Sora might make the connection he missed before when conversing with Star? Or will the memory be *eclipsed* once again…?
Context for Sora telling Nameless Star she "won't give up," and comparing this to the other two JP "won't give up" dialogue lines.
Why the overlap? Keep going in the thread to find out.
I felt this official Soriku song fit this part of Re:Mind quite nicely 🎶
