You notice how we never call mario something different, like this is all mario despite different how different he looks (with one exception)

Sonic 4 could have beaten cartoons like mickey mouse and the new looney tunes shorts to the punch by creating their own evolved iteration of sonics older design, best example I could bring up is sonics design during sonic R and 3D blast.
