Jasiri & Faraja popped back to say hi to the Umani Springs orphan #elephant herd & their Keepers. The boys have been on walkabout for a month and arrived back with an impressive wild bull for company. He’s obviously been showing them the ropes. #rewilding
The Thabangunje #WaterForWildlife initiative is hit with #elephants! Funded by donations, the solar-powered borehole feeds troughs and pans. So, in an area with few water points during the dry season, elephants have somewhere to drink and wallow. Water = life!
Naskeu has been at our Ithumba Reinetgration Unit since 2017 and she's already found the best scratching spots. If you look closely you'll see that she only has one tusk - a genetic variation that can be seen in elephants across Africa.
What's a difference between black and white rhinos? It's not their colour, so let's look at their mouths. White rhino have a 'wide' mouth, for grass grazing. Black rhino sport a pointed upper lip, like rescued orphan Apollo here, which they use to hold branches for browsing.
