Summers were indeed hotter in the 1930s than they were in the 2010s -- but over a very small fraction of the globe.
This is of course a global problem, and whether or not the temperature in your backyard is the hottest it's ever been does not prove otherwise.
"But it was hot in 1976! Where was your climate crisis then?"
So let's have a look at the data, on a global scale.
The global average temperature was more than 1°C warmer this year. The change in 46 years is staggering. https://t.co/Fksd5fnON7
I am in awe...this satellite image gave me chills. #StormEunice is exploding in intensity west of Britain & Ireland. Severe impacts on Friday. I hope everyone has made the necessary preparations and stays safe.
The highly dynamic evolution of the stratospheric polar vortex from November 2020 through April 2021, as told by 10 hPa potential vorticity from ERA5.
The big difference between the heatwaves of 1976 and 2018.
June 1976: the UK was one of the warmest places relative to normal across the globe, with most areas cooler than average.
June 2018: the UK was just another warm blob in a mostly warmer than normal world.

Final 10-day ensemble of CFSv2 from May indicates a warm & dry June for the UK, Ireland & NW Europe, thanks to an anomalous ridge in the NE Atlantic giving a "high over low" block. Wet and cool further south, especially in Iberia.
