The Tory vessel returning to Sligo struck rocks and sank with the loss of 5 lives in 1856. The owners John Hodgson & James Browne boarded just before the vessel hit rocks. Hodgson jumped over board & was washed ashore, witnessing the vessel break up and all others on board perish
