A redemption arc is when a character realizes they did something wrong, fixes it, and faces the consequences for their actions. It usually takes numerous episodes or spans seasons, sometimes not even getting closure. Quit chalking it up to a last minute misunderstanding.
A problem Steven Universe always had was that they never gave problematic elements to a characters background to justify their behavior. This was well before the diamonds. These characters had serious flaws and did messed up shit, but never have a reason for it.
@mordennight Troy drew Omin for me. It's one of my most well received pieces of fanart.
Fun, likable, goofball heroes who are unexpectedly badass. They also don't let their tragic origins stop them from being good people. One of my favorite character archetypes.
