Anyway phoenix head-cannon before bed:
My character Jay began life as a human but got turned into a bird at some point. She was quite quickly mentored by another phoenix who taught her the ropes, and now gets by doing odd jobs where a bit of controlled pyromancy would be useful.
Oh no! This definitely wasn't what I expected when opening the suspicious flame can.
