It’s really amazing that of the many earthly, mundane characters in Marvel, Spider-Man is also worthy enough to be marveled at. Even having more books than Thor, a god himself.
What I’m trying to say is that Venom has evolved so much over the years, even with some villainous relapses, he’s managed to become a separate character from Spider-Man.
He has his own lore and characters to develop and he’s already iconic without the need of Spidey’s help.
Even when Marvel’s tried to bring a new evil Venom to the forefront, it’s usually fallen flat.
Angelo Fortunato: Dead and forgotten.
Mac Gargan: Scorpion and a pretty infamous Venom overall.
Lee Price: Dead, didn’t even last and hopefully never comes back.
Operations against Mr. Negative. Even sacrificing his new Symbiote so a cure can be developed for the Spider-Island event.
And if we’re talking about a good Venom, you couldn’t have gotten more heroic than Flash Thompson, the Agent Venom, Space Knight and hero to the Galaxy.
Venom is an iconic part of the Spider-Man mythos, but I don’t think we can talk about him (them?) as an enemy anymore.
For a good decade or so, he’s taken off as it’s own thing, with a lore separate from Spidey’s. (+)
I hope we’re all in the same page here:
