New paper alert, from our lab: the brains and senses of Bistahieversor, one of the closest cousins of T. rex! Using CAT scans, we clarified how tyrannosaurs changed their sensory systems as they grew to huge sizes.
The science is up to date. And the tyrannosaurs are *properly* shown as the feathery creatures they were, like Dilong here (next to its cousin, a chicken). 😃
The best type of day out: fossil hunting on the dramatic Scottish (Fife) coast with @GeosciencesEd undergrads. Field trips during class time are wonderful... Carboniferous crinoids, corals, trees, trace fossils galore!
Huge congrats to @chloeyoung1995 on the publication of her first paper!
Chloe and our team describe new Jurassic dinosaur teeth from the Isle of Skye, found by @davfof & @TomChallands.
The teeth show that big & small meat-eaters coexisted 170 million yrs ago in Scotland.
This plot in @AAlechiarenza & @pdmannion's brilliant new paper breaks my heart.
The niches were there for dinosaurs to thrive in the Paleocene...but the asteroid took that chance away from them.
But, it opened those same niches to placental mammals, and here we are!
