In the museum we have two large sea paintings by the Dordrecht painter Johannes Schotel. 'Storm at sea' (1825) is one of the first paintings the museum purchased. A few years later, Schotel made a counterpart to order, 'The quiet water'.

The cat paintings of Henriëtte Ronner-Knip were particularly popular at the end of the 19th century. From the 1850s onwards she painted countless performances with young kittens taking mischievous actions.
