I am fond of paintings with simple statements. There’s more than enough detail in this picture so the viewer isn’t bored with unnecessary information.

There’s balance of texture and color within this picture. The design is well organized and the viewer doesn’t tire moving around the composition.

First Time Entry Award: Mahtab Abdollahi for Poppies 3
This loose, spirited watercolor has been painted with a confident hand. The artist has terrific shadow shapes throughout the poppies and vase.
