So while I love and appreciate the work of Ness*kain and Blizzard's artists, I wish they would have done more homework (kudos to whoever modeled Baptiste). Seeing natural Black hair rendered in games is a rarity and I refuse to believe it's impossible. 2D artists have no excuse.
Chunky twists outs are NOT locs. The hair is still loose and not "fused" together. And locs NEVER have that hard edge, flat top look like in the promo art.
The hairstyle of his younger self does look like a high top with locs. However, locs are rarely that thick/few.
Looking at his promo art, concept art & model, there are definitely differences in the rendering of his hair. IMO the promo art (& to a lesser extent the concept art) shows a lack of understanding about hair black types & the implied style. The in-game model is pretty successful.
Fantasy worldbuilding doesn't have to fit inside standards, aesthetics, and lore set by European mythologies and old, white male writers. Tales of strange creatures, fantastical lands, and magic exist across the Afro diaspora too. Black fantasy worlds can exist! #BlackFantasyOC
