It's not the new direction I was hoping for and there's a lot of room for improvement, but it's still new and it's still a direction, so I'm down to see where it goes!
And if nothing else, I'm VERY much looking forward to more of these smiles.
... didn't really upset me as much as it could've if any of those two things had been present. Plus, the art really, really helped.
And beyond Shiva, I wish more of this story was told from Ghost's PoV.
Anyway, with the vision chasen away and after a fun little visual parallel with the aforementioned Outsiders run, Shiva and her team enter the house and the story ends with them facing the mysterious Noah. So... how was it?
Shiva in Batgirl #73 very much wanted to die, while Grayson wrote a whole story about Shiva getting over her death wish (although it came from feelings of abandonment rather than guilt or regret). This is a Shiva who wants to live -- at least, until she's done with her mission.
.. the biggest one is Shiva herself. Back in Batgirl #73, Shiva looked perfectly happy with getting her neck snapped by her lovely daughter, while here she's all snarling & screaming.
Which is weird, but gets less weird when you realize this isn't the same Shiva from back then.
SNEAK ATTACASS!
Which of course, turns out to be an illusion created by Noah. Now, anyway who's read Batgirl #73 can recognize the situation. However, there's a couple of different details, such as Cass having her whole uniform and the headlock not being quite the same, but...
He clearly understands the personalities of the characters as written in the story, and takes every chance he gets to showcase that.
Meanwhile, Plascencia's colors effortlessly pop all over the place, making every figure stand out and adding a ton of vibrancy to every element.
So it's been a rocky start so far, but the next page is an absolutely gorgeous scene as Tatsu uses the app to remember her twice-dead husband, whose soul has been removed from her sword, and this here's a great segue into my absolutely favorite part of this story:
... for a Gotham story, but then again there's been a lot of sci-fi stuff in there recently -- including one of our protagonists!
The story begins with Ghost, a thief from the Gotham slums created by Grayson for the digital-first Legends of the Dark Knight series.
Let Steph & Cass team-up with Cass' mom. https://t.co/flETwYHd2U
