OTD (3 June 69) destroyer USS Frank E Evans was cut in two while passing under the bows of carrier HMAS Melbourne in the South China Seas during night operations, with the loss of 74 lives. An investigation found the accident to be due to errors on the Evans bridge crew's part.

The USS Halsey, a conjectural 'sea control ship' proposed for the @USNavy using a Spruance class destroyer hull. Designed to escort convoys and amphibious groups, she would have carried a small number of AV8 Harrier jets for air defence and helicopters to hunt Soviet submarines.

OTD (11 Oct 51) the light carrier HMAS Sydney (III) created a record for a light fleet carrier by flying 89 sorties in one day. Sydney was operating against Communist store dumps at Kojo, Korea. Though her sisters operated with 8 different navy's, her record was never beaten.

Three navies have ordered the Type 26 frigate, the @RoyalNavy (8 x City class), @Australian_Navy (9 x Hunter class) and the @RCN_MRC (15 x City class). A 1:72 hull is underway and we look forward to seeing all 3 classes, with their respective fit-outs, joining @TaskForce72Aust

HMAS Sydney (III) was a aircraft carrier operated by the @Australian_Navy from 1948-73 in a number of roles. Sydney served in the Korean War and is seen in that configuration, operating Sea Fury and Firefly fixed wing aircraft and a Sikorsky Dragonfly helicopter.
