Some of these date from the 1770s, among the earliest in the history of fashion imagery.
By the end of the 1800s the number of fashion publications had increased with names like Petit courtier des dames (1821), La Mode Illustrée (1860) Harper’s Bazaar (1875) ⤵️

This painting A Ship in a Stormy Sea by Jean-Baptiste Henry can be admired in our exhibition. Artist & curator Dave Bramston and his team have analysed the painting to explore the variety of tones present.
