Help me decide which one to turn into a postcard for Valentine’s Day :) 💙
My little Pupusa & Curtido (they’re gay)
my little ode to queer codes in art history :) from Oscar Wilde’s green carnation to flowers in post-colonial codices to lovebirds hidden in the trees.
There are so many codes hidden in art history that were meant only for the queer to decipher the otherwise mundane painting.
s/o to el rey @Winston_Duke for getting me out of a creative block 😌
Even though Bird of Paradise flowers are commonly associated with Los Angeles & Mesoamerica, they’re actually native to Africa!
A little multicultural flower felt fitting for #WakandaForever :) https://t.co/2tEr6Mh7yP
Also since it's El Salvador's Independence Day let's also talk about La Siguanaba 😎💙
Abused & harassed by men during her life, she's said to be a transwoman who – by defending herself & threatening the concept of machismo by her very existence – was painted as a monster.
@Eluard_Gabriel Ooohhh so now we're not using Mayan murals, we're using Spanish portraiture. Okay! Works for me. Here's some from Peru, and two in mesoamerica (back to the topic). All from around the same time as that portrait :) 1490s-1500
NEW STICKERS and prints just dropped :) 💙 go check it out for good luck at https://t.co/DmdIRerkDD
