The arcade game Tough Turf (1989, Sunsoft / Sega) and the SNES game The Combatribes (1992, Technos) end almost identically: a fight on the roof of a tall building with the previously unseen sole female enemy. The ending is portrayed as tragic.
Was there common inspiration here?

And they're not above being extra detailed for games with 3D levels. Even so, they still only use the default palettes and lines no thicker than 1 pixel, except where the extra separation is needed.
I never thought about what Agahnim was supposed to look like. He was big, ugly, and looked like cabbage so he was going down.
