There bad been a bit of a quiet period before Martha and her friends were truly a trio. There had been attempts at friendship and bonding as a group, but personalities clashed hard in the beginning, and the first attempt at a group case went sideways almost immediately.

What had started as a case Martha needed to handle herself in her third year of sleuthing because something of a competition as this boy, deeply jealous and wanting to prove his own worth, began to outshine the junior detective at her own work

Martha and Piper didn't meet until her second year of sleuthing. Piper had been part of a gang for a while by then, gave her a sense of family and belonging as she didn't have any others to turn to. But lately things bad gotten worse, more criminal, people were really being hurt
