Sketchbook Saturday: 1992 preliminary sketches of D&D critters for the "AD&D Monstrous Manual". I was 23 years old at the time.🤓🎨🧌 #DnD #dungeonsanddragons #sketchbook
Throwing it back to 1995 and the illustrations done for various characters for the "Changeling" role-playing game. I drew inspiration from Leonardo DaVinci for these images.🧚♀️ #ThrowbackThursday #TBT @TheOnyxPath
...In the end, Gzonk was a moderate success. Mostly, I remember having SO MUCH FUN drawing these nonsensical creatures, although the inspiration of Seuss is quite evident. The experience gave me a deeper appreciation of how genius Seuss' alphabet book is. A true classic for kids.
I'd been warned by my editor that alphabet books are tough to sell, but I countered that this book did not teach the alphabet--it parodied them with made up words. Also it counted objects that were beyond counting (like the hairs on someone's head)...
Sketchbook Saturday: "G is for One Gzonk" is a ridiculous alphabet book from 2006 and one I don't talk about much. It was a silly book written just before the Spiderwick craze hit but completed after "Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide"...
This was my fav of the bunch. This big ol’ sprite was attracted to our front porch lights.🤓🎨🧚♀️
…while a version of this fairy first appeared in Spiderwick’s “The Care & Feeding of Sprites”.
This fella, Toadshade, first appeared in “Arthur Spiderwick’s Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You”.
