All these artworks are made with thread! The Art of Embroidery exhibition on all this week at the @BanksideGallery London. Fabulous! #Broderers2022
This Annunciation is by Botticelli (1489), also in Florence, at the Uffizi. The postures and movement and the intensity of the angel's gaze as he tries to explain and reassure: genius.
Today's #Lockdown art of my favourites is another Gainsborough: Heneage Lloyd and His Sister Lucy (1750). What is it about elongation with this painter? He always makes his subjects tall and thin, whether they were or not. These kids, blimey. Their expressions freak me out.
Today's #Lockdown art of my favourites: Mary, Countess Howe by Gainsborough (1764), at @EHKenwood in Hampstead Heath. She reminds me of Helen Mirren, and I love her pink dress.
Today's #Lockdown art: Full Basket by Archie Forrest (2012). A contemporary painter I have only recently discovered, he is a leading Scottish 'Colourist'. His colours are so seductive. One of his paintings is my screen saver, possibly the closest I'll ever get to owning one...
Today's #Lockdown art of my favourites: Two Women Running on the Beach by Picasso (1922). Look beyond the cliche and Picasso's dubious reputation with women. This painting captures how we all felt when it was sunny and warm in the UK earlier this week.
Today's #Lockdown art of my favourites: a Modigliani nude (1916) at the @CourtauldGall. A beautiful way to start the week.
