Ommatokoita elongata - a crustacean parasite that lives its entire life permanently attached to the eye of the Greenland and other sleeper sharks, resulting in blindness in their victims. The exact nature this relationship between the parasite and the sharks is unclear.

It’s clear now that the team had some cool character designs and concept art and structured a story around this ideas... resulting in a somewhat disjointed narrative and world. Like, I don’t think anyone knew what to do with Songbird. He feels so tacked on.
Fun fact: the real President of the United States during the Steel Ball Run (1890) was not Funny Valentine. It was the very famous and memorable, Benjamin Harrison.
