But a detail that I didn't get to focus on as much because of the space limit is that Gloria is ALSO religious. Maybe that's why Mr. King fixated on her, because he's used to picking on the most vulnerable in his own congregation.

When writing Gloria!, I wanted to contrast some things:
First, Lias and Mr. King. Both men made mistakes, but Lias is ready to own up, while Mr. King slips further into religious delusions
