@AgentBoxcritter @AurorusBC @BoxCritters We do the line art in Adobe Animate first, then export the line art to Photoshop because it's quicker to work colors in Photoshop. Then we use the Photoshop image as reference to fill-in the colors and do the shading in Animate.
Here's the work in progress back in Animate. :D

This is the end result. All that remains is filling the shape in with color. For the final animation I added highlights to make give the smoke some 3D form. The highlights are animated exactly the same way, but instead of lines I drew blobs where I wanted the smoke to be lighter.

The end result is really smooth animation. Although if you look carefully, you can notice a very brief moment when the animation stops. This is because the first frame, and the last frame are exactly identical, so there’s a very brief pause in the motion.

Now the animation is almost complete. We have a new drawing every 2 frames (This animation is called ‘shot on twos’) which is where a lot of TV animations stop adding in-between frames.

After adding new spaces in-between all the existing drawings for our new frames, we fill in these spaces with more squiggly lines! At this point drawing these squiggly lines is pretty simple because the before and after frames give us a really clear idea where the line should go.

I colored all the lines black for this test animation. Now it’s starting to look like more like smoke! But it’s still not very smooth.

With these additional frames in place the animation starts to look more like smoke.

(Note for above: this half-way drawing between two key poses is called the ‘breakdown’ drawing)

I played the animation to see what it looked like. To be fair, at this point it doesn’t look very great.
