To start off with, we all know that Luffy's journey is a parallel to Roger's journey.

Luffy's journey began where Roger's ended & Luffy has followed in Roger's footsteps throughout the story

Beyond those potential connections, there is also the theme of Fire Festivals and references to 'The Sun God, Nika'.

Both have traditions of holding bonfire festivals in honour of the dead and in both arcs we get reference to Nika.
